Pop-In: Humanity in Motion with Wild Sage Sept 2, 8:30-10 PM Price: $20 Humanity in Motion… Movement Exploration for Every Body is a welcoming, fully-accessible physically integrated series centered in intuitive improvisational dance practice. In these challenging times, our nervous systems are overwrought. Too many of us, especially older, disabled, neurodivergent, and gender nonconforming folx, feel disconnected from community. This class is a bridge back to joy, back to breath, back to ourselves… a path to release, relief, reassurance, and belonging. We meet on a large padded marley floor in a supportive, inclusive space. Rooted in modern and improvisational dance theory, we’ll learn to elaborate and diversify our physical vocabulary as we move collectively and responsively, finding opportunities to release tension, notice resistance, move with purpose, and uplift our spirits. Led by disabled Atlanta interdisciplinary artist Jo Peace (Wild Sage), choreographer and artistic director of me.you.us.we.them, their guiding philosophy is simple: “We’re all dancers… we just haven’t all realized it yet.” Flow through improvisational exercises, learn to use breath, energy, release, fulcrums, flow, weight-sharing, support structures, and intention to guide your body. Rather than prepared choreography, we’ll focus on discovering and developing movement together. Explore how innate gestures can be expanded on to become physical phrases, and transformed into uniquely nuanced and textured dances. The process is intentionally collaborative in an environment structured to support authenticity, creative expression, personal growth, and improved mobility. You’re invited to participate at your own pace, building confidence and connection moment by moment. Humans of all varieties are welcome. No dance experience necessary. Come as you are.
